Upon fasting, Insig-2a levels rise, suppressing lipogenesis in a sterol-dependent fashion. Insulin cycling might be critical for the prevention of excessive lipogenesis. It creates a brief window during refeeding when Insig levels begin to decline and there is insufficient Insig-1 to suppress lipogenesis. However, with induction of Insig-1, lipogenesis is held in check. Thus, a wild-type refed animal “overshoots” its rate of lipogenesis (7). In contrast, transgenic mice overexpressing Insig-1 effectively abolish the cycling of Insig-1 expression and therefore do not overshoot lipogenesis upon refeeding (Figure 1). This leads to a dramatic 80% reduction in plasma triglycerides in the refed mice (8).

P 83: Progression of Hearing Loss in Experimental Meningitis
Hearing loss and meningitis were correlate in some aspects. Hearing loss is the situation that can be shown in cochlear or retrocochlear defects. Cochlear hearing loss is caused by inner or outer hair cell damage (however cochlear hearing loss has another causes, such as defect of arterial spiral ganglion, basilar and tectorial membrane) and retrocochlear hearing loss has neural origin and meni...
متن کاملMurine autoimmune hearing loss mediated by CD4+ T cells specific for β-tubulin.
Autoimmune inner ear disease is described as progressive, bilateral although asymmetric, sensorineural hearing loss and can be improved by immunosuppressive therapy. We showed that the inner ear autoantigen β-tubulin is capable of inducing experimental autoimmune hearing loss (EAHL) in mice. Immunization of BALB/c mice with β-tubulin resulted in hair cell loss and hearing loss, effects that wer...
متن کاملEvaluation of relationship between skin involvement and hearing loss in patients with vitiligo
Vitiligo is a common acquired depigmented disorder of the skin that can lead to social negative outcomes, including reduced quality of life. Melanocytes disorder can also occur within other organs, such as ear. Different areas of the inner ear, such as the cochlear duct and vestibular system, have melanocytes. This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the relationship between skin inv...
متن کاملJuvenile psoriatic arthritis and acquired sensorineural hearing loss in a teenager: is there an association?
Autoimmune inner ear disease is a cause of sensorineural hearing loss, first described in 1979 by McCabe. The occurrence during rheumatic diseases is already documented in adults, but to our knowledge, this evidence is still lacking in children. A 13-yr-old girl affected by juvenile psoriatic arthritis, treated with etanercept, developed a bilateral and asymmetric sensorineural deafness. The pa...
متن کاملReg-2, A Downstream Signaling Protein in the Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor Survival Pathway, Alleviates Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis
Ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), originally described as a neurocytokine that could support the survival of neurons, has been recently found to alleviate demyelination, prevent axon loss, and improve functional recovery in a rat model of acute experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). However, poor penetration into the brain parenchyma and unfavorable side effects limit the utility of...
